PatentPro has the most comprehensive set of tools for writing a patent application and automatically generates much of the application for you.  PatentPro has had from the beginning automated claim drafting and was the first software to generate claims using input from the inventor. And unlike other patent application software, PatentPro has a proven track record of aiding thousands of individuals in submitting patent applications and has successfully helped inventors receive patents on their inventions.  To learn more please visit the Issued Patents section on our website.

No, PatentPro is easy-to-use.  The software divides the patent application process into a series of short steps, with easy to understand instructions and checklists.  Step-by-step, PatentPro guides you through the patent application process allowing you to effectively write your own patent application.  Many of the sections are written for you, requiring only minor editing.  When you are finished, PatentPro contains all the materials needed to file your own patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark office.

Yes.
PatentPro creates a disclosure document describing your invention that can be filed as a "provisional application for patent" by sending it to the Patent Office with a
Provisional Application for Patent Cover Sheet and an $100.00 fee for a small entity.  Because the disclosure requirements for a provisional application are the same as those for a full blown utility application, the method used in PatentPro prepares a complete document that can later be converted into a full patent application.  No declaration, however, is required.  In addition, no claims are required in the provisional, though the claims generated with PatentPro may be submitted with the provisional application.

Fees are subject to change. The current fee for a provisional application for patent can be found on the USPTO website fee page. USPTO Contact Center (UCC) customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays) at 800-786-9199 to provide fee information. Payment by check or money order must be made payable to "Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office".

Mail the provisional application and filing fee to:

Commissioner for Patents
P. O. Box 1450
Alexandria, VA 22313-1450

No, PatentPro prepares a utility patent application.  Copyrights and trademarks may be sought using forms at the Copyright Office and the Trademark Office.  For more information, consult Resources and Links.  An ornamental design patent application covers only the appearance of an article and does not cover its function.  For more information about design patents, go to the Patent Office website. www.uspto.gov

Yes, PatentPro provides information that enables you to prepare informal drawings.  It is not a Computer Aided Design program (CAD), however, and does not directly prepare the drawings themselves.  For a skilled draftsperson that can prepare formal patent drawings, click here http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/NTP/

Not generally.  PatentPro is Windows compatible.  There are emulation programs available that permit a Mac to run Windows programs, but PatentPro has not been tested on those programs.

PatentPro has information about searching using the Patent Office’s website.  A basic patent search can be performed using that website.  For more information, consult the Patent Office website at www.uspto.gov.

Generally, no.  The patent law precludes the filing of a patent on an invention that was known or used by others, or on sale or offered for sale more than one year prior to the filing of a patent application.  For more information, consult the Patent Office website at www.uspto.gov. “Laws and Rules”
